Beach Guide

Located 3.5 km from the municipality of El Vendrell, the beaches of the marine villages Sant Salvador, Coma-ruga, and El Francàs are considered to be some of the main attractions of the region.

The low coast is nearly seven kilometres long, forming a straight line of fine, sandy beaches. In addition to the calmness, transparency and pleasant temperature of the sea, another advantage of this tiny corner of the Costa Daurada is the high amount of iodine in the water, which makes it especially healthy.

The coast of El Vendrell was first awarded the European blue flag in 1988 and considered by many to be one of the best beaches in Catalonia. El Vendrell is a great place to sunbathe and to practise all types of water sports. The esplanade of El Vendrell still conserves a few of the nineteenth-century style houses alongside old liqueur warehouses.

Just before arriving at the old sanatorium of Sant Joan de Déu (which is now a five star hotel), we find Les Madrigueres, a nature reserve used by a great number of birds on their migratory paths.

The Coma-ruga beach also has the marine reserve known as Masia Blanca, an underwater area that is typical of these sloping sandy beaches. The fauna and flora that the township aims to protect represent roughly half of the species found along the Catalan coastline.

Sant Salvador beach has a chapel, a century-old building considered to be one of the oldest in the municipality. The urban development of this neighbourhood has increased over the past few years and many summer holiday homes have been built.

The cultural atmosphere of the area is worth mentioning. Both the Auditorium and Vil•la Casals are located here.
